The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is distinguished by its longer nose and
heavier build from the King Charles Spaniel. He has beautiful large dark eyes. A
loving dog, he is good natured and fond of children. He will make a good companion for the
young and old alike. A fearless, lively little dog with a cheerful disposition, he
is sociable with both people and other dogs. |
Height: 12 - 13 inches
Weight: 10 - 18 lbs.Colors: Recognised colours are:
Black and Tan: raven black with tan markings above the eyes, on
cheeks, inside ears, on chest and legs and underside of tail. Tan should be bright. White
marks undesirable.
Ruby: whole coloured rich red. White markings undesirable.
Blenheim: rich chestnut markings well broken up, on pearly white ground. Markings
evenly divided on head, leaving room between ears for much valued lozenge mark or spot (a
unique characteristic of the breed).
Tricolour: black and white well spaced, broken up, with tan markings
over eyes, cheeks, inside ears, inside legs, and on underside of tail.
Any other colour or combination of colours highly undesirable.
Coat: Long,
silky, free from curl
Temperament: Friendly, obedient, sensible
With Children: Yes, children
should be older if just a puppy.

History: His origins are from
the King Charles Spaniel, who through selective breeding from the Toy Spaniel was produced
to have a more exaggerated head with a great dome and flatter face, possible from
the Pug though it is uncertain. Cavalier was a crossing of the King Charles and the
Cocker Spaniel. His name is from King Charles II who kept a large number of Toy
Spaniels. He was a favorite of the aristocracy in the early nineteenth
century. |
